David Grove가 1980년대에 트라우마를 가진 고객들의 기억을 해결하는데 의학적인 방법으로서 사용했다.

He realised many clients naturally described their symptoms in metaphor, and found that when he enquired about these using their exact words, their perception of the trauma began to change.

  • Not-clean response
    • A: Have you got a headache?

Basic Questions

There are 9 basic Clean Language questions. Two questions request information about symbol's attributes and two ask for locational information. There are two questions which reference the past and two which reference the future (from the client's perceptual present). This leaves the odd-one-out which offers the client the opportunity to make a lateral and therefore metaphorical shift in perception . The 9 basic Clean Language questions are:

• And what kind of ...... is that ......?
  • 말씀하신 X는 어떤 종류의 X인가요?
  • 어떤 (종류의) X요?

• And where is ......?
• And whereabouts?
• And what happens next?
• And then what happens?
• And what happens just before ......?
• And where does/could ...... come from?
• And that's ...... like what?

생각 밑에 있는 메타포를 사용하는 것이 특징 우리는 메타포로 생각하기 때문에 메타포로 이야기한다. 그 사람이 무엇을 생각하는지 더 잘 알 수 있다.

메타포를 변형함으로써 변화를 가져온다.

트라우마를 치료하는데 쓰였지만 코칭 등 여러분야에 쓸 수 있다.

모델이 엄청 심플하다. 9~12개의 질문으로 단순화될 수 있다.

그래서 다른 코칭 모델들 속에도 끼어들어갈 수 있다.

메타포를 탐색할 때, 만약 상대를 변화시키거나 추측하지 않는다면, 모든 사람은 서로 다른 컨텍스트를 가지기 때문에. 그들이 정말로 무엇을 원하는지 알기 전에 해답을 제공한느 것은 쉽지만 효과적이지 않음.
